Back in the 80′s when Rock’n Motion was Mecca for Heavy Metal and everything that was Aquanet and Leather, I was asked to paint up a jacket for a brand new show on MTV called Headbangers Ball. Speeding forward to yesterday… I decided it was time to go through the storage units that house so much stuff from our past, pre-computer art, art tables etc…. boy I have a project ahead of me. *heh*
I went through one unit and grabbed a few boxes and came home with two awesome photo backdrops Janet photographed all these great bands from Los Angeles in the 80′s and 90′s. They are in great shape and can’t wait to use them again.
Inside one of the boxes I opened was a box of photos and the reason for this post in the blog. I am avid on Twitter an online Social Media Network that allows you to micro blog what you are doing throughout the day at 140 characters at a time. Its your basic follow you and follow me strategy. Well from my past I happened upon Adam Curry last month on Twitter and added him to my list to follow. Every once in a while he would Tweet something and I finally messaged him back and we started talking about the Headbangers Ball and if he remembered the Leather jacket I painted for him in 1987. He totally did! Anyway, here is the photo of the imfamous jacket, its just so funny that I found right after we had talked about it!

I airbrushed all these logos on the back of the jacket, one for Al Bane for Leather who made the jacket for Headbangers Ball on MTV, Larry Flynt’s infamous heavy metal magazine RIP Magazine, Megadeth and so on. That’s me (22 years old in school at Art Center) wearing the jacket before we shipped it to New York.
Hows that for some Rock’n Motion Nostalgia?

One Tuesday afternoon in November 2007 we met with MasterSource | Universal to discuss the possiblility of designing a booth to exhibit at the NAB Show in Vegas in April 2008. MasterSource had never exhibited before and so the idea of building a booth was new and exciting. At the time, April 2008 seemed so far away, but there was so much to do and this booth was being built from scratch from the ground up, so we had to get moving. (pictured above is the the sketch that started the whole adventure to NAB)
There were so many options to consider and so many questions.
• Could this booth break down into different configurations?
• How many visitors can listen to music within the booth?
• Will there be music playing inside the booth?
• Sound System?
• How will we display the digital media?
• Do we need shelves/storage?
• Seating?
• Can the message on the wall be changed easily?
• A front counter for card reader?
• How can we make our logo prominent from 100 feet away?
etc….
The idea of taking the MasterSource Speaker and sculpting it out of the wall was suggested and from that day forward we ran with it and used it as a focal point in the design (pictured below).

We wanted to allow visitors to listen to the music catalog on both sides of the booth so we designed it with counters on both sides with displays showing the MasterSearch Online catalog with headphones for listening.

On the backwall we had the graphics adhered to the wall but the message applied in vinyl so it could be changed every show and give the booth more longevity. Clear shelves were installed so all there media could be displayed.
Finally the day of The NAB Show/Vegas arrived and Bill and I finally walked up to the booth for the first time and were just blown away. Bryan Kenny and MC-2 did a great job on building the booth. Well done! I just kept saying Wow!Â

We took pictures of the booth and sat and talked with (pictured from left to right) Josh Kessler, Marc Ferrari, President of MasterSource and Abby O’Neill and could just tell how excited they were about their new booth and that they were ready for the Show!

Congratulations Marc, I just know you are going to have a great show this week!

It’s amazing that 12 days ago there was…
• No Company Identity
• No Web Presence
• No Food Packaging
• No Tradeshow Booth
• No Product Literature
• No Food Photography
• No Flash presentation for the booth
But today all that is a reality! After working around the clock since our first meeting on February 28th, Team Rock’n Motion came through BIG time. We first started with selecting what kind of packaging we were to use to create graphics for and once that was decided, we went on to design the new product line logo.

After a week, we presented the new Branding for the new Organic Line. The first words out of everyone’s mouth was WOW! (and there was much rejoicing from our team). As anyone knows in the design process, having something approved right away allowed us to move ahead and start the web site design and programming and booth design, etc…
Today was the first day of the show with the new booth all set up and lots of people at the NPEW Show (Natural Products Expo West) have come by and have commented that they love the new packaging and new look. Our clients called from the show and said they were very happy.
Thank You Guys, it was our pleasure!

Last night I went to see our good friend Ian Blackburn who we have known for many
years who owns Learn About Wine, a company that promotes wine education & wine events throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area. The event I attended and photographed was called “Taste of Europe” which was located at HD Buttercup in Culver City and co-sponsored by Los Angeles Magazine, and and Indie 103.1 FM.
It was a great venue to take photography at and why not?
Great location, Great Wine, Great Food and Beautiful People!
Above is one of my favorites I took that night for the event.
Of course Learn About Wine was pouring Stellar wines that night and the food was catered by Heirloom-LA yum! If you haven’t attended one of his events you should definitely go, Great date night and you just might learn something about wine along the way!
*cheers*
